City of God is a demonic horror investigation TTRPG which places you in the role of an exorcist that is investigating demonic spirits in the world of the religious Dark Ages. You are powerless against these immortal beings, and powerless to the anarchy and violence of the world around you. Yet, it is your duty, enshrined by the Holy testaments of God, to banish these demons to their hellish domain, and restore God’s light upon the Earth.
This is not a game for the powerful; but for the witty demonologist who is willing to put their soul on the line in order to free their brothers and sisters from the bonds of evil and sin.
The game takes inspiration from staple investigation and horror tabletop games such as Kids on Bikes and Ten Candles, but grounds supernatural horror in real history. The world of the Dark Ages ~(400-600 A.D.) is a quagmire of human devastation, sin, and misery. There is never-ending conflict between foreign barbarians vying for power, corrupt bureaucrats serving the ruins of the old Roman order, and leaders of the Christian faith crucifying one another to claim themselves leaders over the faithful.
For the players, the lines of mortal evil will blur with that of the demonic and supernatural, and they will be forced to question with which evils they must treat with in order to defeat another.
